Lions' golf tourney planned for June 1
The Darien Lions Club will host their annual golf tournament on Thursday, June 1, at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien.The cost for the event is $100, which includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course, lunch at the turn and sit-down dinner with an open bar after golf.
All payments must be made by Friday May 19; after that, the cost will be $110. There are only 144 openings available. For more information call Lou Mallers of the Darien Lions Club at (630) 404-6365.

First Alert recalling smoke, CO detectors
Two First Alert, Inc., products are included in a voluntary recall by the company and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission.The First Alert ONELINK battery-powered smoke detector, and a combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, have been recalled for an operational problem that prematurely drains battery power and causes the products to fail to detect smoke and/or carbon monoxide. These models were sold between June 2005 and March 2006 at various stores nationwide.
Consumers who are unsure whether their detector or alarm is included in the ban should visit www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml06/06151.html to check the descriptions and serial numbers of the recalled models.

Revived Willowbrook brush pickup effort starts May 15
The Willowbrook Village Board has agreed to re-instate the villagewide spring brush collection program, which will take place from Monday, May 15, through Friday, May 19. Residents may begin placing material on the parkways Friday, May 12.No additional material may be placed on the parkway for collection after May 15. Read more...

The Willowbrook Village Board has agreed to re-instate the villagewide spring brush collection program, which will take place from Monday, May 15, through Friday, May 19. Internet safety program slated
A program on Internet safety awareness program, designed for parents who want to learn how to keep an Internet experience safe for their children, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Prairieview Elementary School, 699 Plainfield Road, Downers Grove.Officials from the DuPage County sheriff's police and Center Cass School District 66 will provide information and safety tips on current Internet issues, including cyber-bullying, MySpace.com and online sexual predators.
Sponsored by Center Cass School District 66, the meeting is open to the public, but registration is required. To register, call Lakeview School at (630) 985-2700, Prairieview School at (630) 783-5100 or Elizabeth Ide School at (630) 783-5200.
