Harvest Fest, 50th birthday bash on tap in Burr Ridge
The Burr Ridge Park District will hold its annual Harvest Fest from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Harvester Park, 15W400 Harvester Drive, and at the same time hold a 50th birthday party for the village of Burr Ridge.Harvest Fest will include hayrides, train rides, an action field, carnival games, pony rides, a petting zoo, road rally, water balloon slingshot, pumpkin patch and pumpkin decorating station.
Activity tickets will be 25 cents each, wristbands $5. Most activities will require two tickets. Wristbands are good for unlimited hayrides, train rides and the action field, which will be set up for inflatable amusements. Free activities include face painting, a construction zone, popcorn and entertainment.The 50th birthday party for the village of Burr Ridge will include a huge birthday cake with candles to be blown out by Mayor Gary Grasso. The village's 50th Birthday Committee is providing entertainment, serving cake and ice cream, and organizing children's contests.

Burr Ridge Veterans Memorial gets donation
The Kiwanis Club raised more than $3,000 at a golf outing to benefit the Burr Ridge Veterans Memorial. The club was scheduled to present a check to the Memorial Committee July 11, at the Memorial site at McCullough Park, corner of Plainfield and County Line Roads.The Memorial Committee is still in need of $200,000 to begin construction.
"We continue to need support to reach our goal and build this memorial in a timely manner," said Tim Vaclav, chairman of the Memorial committee.
Veterans wanted for the Indian Prairie Public Library Veterans History Project.

Burr Ridge adds options for paying water bills, fees
The Burr Ridge Village Board authorized a new system June 12 that will give residents the opportunity to use credit or debit cards to pay water bills and village fees.Finance Director Jerry Sapp said the system will allow Burr Ridge residents to pay their water bills via the Internet using Visa or MasterCard. They also can use their cards in person at Village Hall to pay for permits, fines, licenses and other fees in addition to water bills, Sapp said. Read more...

BR offers parkway trees
A few trees are still available for parkway planting in Burr Ridge after the spring planting program began April 14. Any Burr Ridge resident can request a tree for spring or fall planting. After it has been determined that the parkway or right of way in question meets the requirements for tree planting, that resident's name and address is placed on the village's planting list. Kids invited to give claymation a try in BR
The Burr Ridge Park District invites children ages 8 to 14 to create a movie using claymation animation on Thursdays, April 6 to May 11, at the Community Center, 15W400 Harvester Drive. Sessions run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. as children will spend time using clay to build the characters in the story, a digital camera to take pictures and video editing software to make the pictures move and add sounds. Burr Ridge smoking ban dialogue heats up

Tots taught computers
The Burr Ridge Park District will offer a computer class for children ages 3 to 5 to explore activities using a notebook computer and educational software on Thursdays, March 9 to April 6, at the Community Center, 15W400 Harvester Drive. Sessions run from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m., or 3:20 to 3:50 p.m., depending on enrollment. The fee for this class is $40 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. Read more...

Children can rename park through contest
The Burr Ridge Park District invites children from the community, ages 5 to 12, to rename Park Center Park, 10S474 Madison St., Burr Ridge. The winning entry in the Name the Park contest will win a $100 Park District gift certificate, which can be used toward any district-sponsored activity. Read more...

Burr Ridge outlines road improvement plans for '06
The Burr Ridge Village Board knows what it wants to accomplish with this year's road work program. The recommendation, which must still be incorporated into the annual budget in April, was given the nod Jan. 10. The approved plan outlines the types of roadwork needed and related costs for upgrades and maintenance for the year ahead. Read more...

Police to auction items online
The Burr Ridge Police Department will be auctioning off surplus items to the public on the Internet throughout January. The items will be sold on Propertyroom.com, and all proceed will go to the department. Authorized by the village, this is the first time the items will be auctioned online. Making the disposal of property easier and more efficient, Propertyroom.com is responsible for picking up the items and auctioning them. Read more...
