Library will offer free practice SAT
The Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road in Darien, will host a practice SAT test from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, conducted by The Princeton Review. The test is free and open to all, but reservations are required. This practice test will help gauge how a student may perform on the actual SAT test.To register, visit the library's Readers Services Desk or call (630) 887-8760, Ext. 239. Sign-up social to open Fall Story Times at Indian Prairie Library
Parents can register their children for the Fall Story Times program at the Indian Prairie Public Library during a sign-up social set for 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 12.Fall story times begin the week of Monday, Sept. 18, and run through the week of Monday, Nov. 6. September 11 Project
n honor of the fifth anniversary of September 11, the library will be showing the 2006 film that depicts the events about United flight 93 on Monday, September 11.
British director Paul Greengrass uses a combination of actors and real people to portray the actions of the passengers and ground personnel during the hijacking and flight of the fourth plane overtaken by terrorists. A discussion will follow the movie. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the movie starts at 7:20 p.m.
On or around September 11, 2006, people worldwide will attend activities of discussion, dialogue, and reflection in public, academic, and school libraries. Come together and learn from your community and from your world. Find out what libraries are participating at The September Project Website.

September is National Library Card Month
Goody bags for the first 300 people to get NEW library cards in September. Make sure children have the most important school supply on their list their own library card!

Library Requests the Return of all Bendable Summer Reading Toys
Our Youth Services Department has been notified by Highsmith of a toy recall on all bendable animals. The distributor of the toys was the Oriental Trading Company, Inc. If your child has chosen ANY of the bendable toys as a reading prize, we are asking you to return it in exchange for another toy from the fish bowl. Other animals include a giraffe, elephant, tiger, lion, and other dogs and cats. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation. Lecture to detail 1933 World's Fair
Art historian Jeff Mishur will present a slide lecture on the 1933 World's Fair, "A Century of Progress," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road, Darien.Highlights of the program are many of the powerful images and symbols of the 1933 World's Fair including the trans-Atlantic crossing led by Italo Balbo, the Sky Ride, Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Car and Sally Rand. Brookfield Zoo passes now available at the Library
Indian Prairie Library is excited to be a part of Brookfield Zoo痴 Wild about Reading Library Pass Program for area libraries. IPPL cardholders can check out one pass per family for free admission for 4. Passes are good for one week. Fines for overdue passes will be $1/day. Check for pass availability.

Teen volunteers add energy to summer library programs
For those who entertain stereotypes of adolescents lounging at the pool with an iPod hooked to their ears, consider the teens who volunteer at Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien. Although school doors have closed for a three-month vacation, approximately 140 energetic teens serve our community as library volunteers. Read more...

Vatican art lecture planned at library
Art historian Michelle Paluch-Mishur will present a slide lecture titled "Splendors of the Vatican" at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road, Darien.
Her presentation will cover a selection of works from the Vatican Museums, particularly those that are on tour as part of the exhibition "St. Peter and the Vatican: the Legacy of the Popes," which is currently on display at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Read more...

Learn more about herbs at library
A slide lecture on "The Herb Patch" will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road, in Darien. Sandy Lentz, a master gardener since 1999, will educate both beginner and advanced gardeners on the selection, care and use of herbs. Lentz is one of a group of volunteers trained by the University of Illinois to provide gardening programs and horticultural activities to educate the public. Read more...

'Chicken Little' to fly into Indian Prairie Library
"Chicken Little," a 2005 computer-animated movie about a chicken who thinks the sky is falling, will be shown at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road, Darien.

Voter's Registration @ the Library
You can register to vote at the Indian Prairie Public Library. It's very easy and only takes a few minutes! Just bring in 2 forms of identification (make sure one has your current address on it), and we will take care of the rest! Voter's registration always closes 30 days before any election, so register by February 21, 2006.

Froggy will hop into Indian Prairie library
Froggy, the children's character created by author Jonathan London, will meet families and children from 10:30 a.m. until noon Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Indian Prairie Public Library, 401 Plainfield Road in Darien. Libraries Big Read effort approaches starting gate

Library to host opera lecture
The Friends of the Indian Prairie Public Library will host a lecture about Guiseppe Verdi's opera, "Rigoletto" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15. The lecture will feature Charles V. DeWitt Jr., a member of the Lyric Opera Lecture Corps.The program will be held in the second-floor meeting room of the library, 401 Plainfield Road, Darien. Library Board Appoints New Director
The Indian Prairie Public Library will start the new year with a new director, Jamie Bukovac, who is leaving the top library post in Hinsdale.Bukovac, 47, will begin Monday, Jan. 9, at the Darien library, succeeding the retiring Lee Schacht. Bukovac served as assistant director at the Downers Grove library for 14 years, during a period when the library almost doubled in space, and left in 2003 for the top job in Hinsdale. Read more...

Kids can play 1860s-era games at library
Children in grades first through sixth are invited to attend a party Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Indian Prairie Public Library that will re-create the fun and games enjoyed by young girls around the year 1864. Many of the activities are inspired by the popular book, "Meet Addy - An American Girl."
